Book Review Plus Curriculum

Thank Fall, Written By: Ciara L. Hill, Illustrated By: Agia Putri- Age Range 6-9

Thank Fall is a book about a young child’s quest to save everything about Fall in a potion. Fall is different for each individual. One person might enjoy the foods of Fall, another might enjoy the smells of Fall, while another might enjoy the leaves, acorns, or animals of Fall. The child in the story enjoyed everything about Fall.

At the end of the book, the Author provides a potion bottle and a page for the reader to create his own autumn potion.

Circle Time– Introduce Fall by bringing in a few things that represent Fall. A orange leaf, acorns or a pinecone. Explain each item to your students and tell them how each item can only be found in Fall/Autumn

Dramatic Play– Add plastic leaves that represent the Fall colors to your dramatic play area. Add overalls for dress-up, gloves, and baskets for the students to dump and rake up leaves. You can also at trees for decorations.

Library– Put out Fall and Autumn Books. You can also put out books about acorns, pinecones and Fall animals. Decorate the area with Fall pillows.

Math- There is so much you can do with Math. Have students count acorns, pinecones or leaves. Put out white boards so that they can practice writing the numbers, and have the opportunity to erase if they need to.

Science– Have students put acorns and pinecones in dirt for one month, have them take a picture of the items each week to observe for changes. Ask them ahead a time what they think will happen to the items.

Blocks– Provide pretend trees, blocks, acorns, pinecones, and leaves, let students use the items to make a Fall scene.

Manipulatives– See if students can create their own Fall item. Let them name it, take a picture and create a Fall Board.
