AI Literacy

I found AI Literacy to be very important, so I wanted to get your input on what you thought. I have attached the article so that you can get a better understanding of what AI Literacy entails. The writer believes that AI Literacy should start in Early Childhood, so that students understand that AI devices aren’t real and so they are able to understand and use them when they are older.

Below is an paragraph from the article

“AI is dominating headlines — and rightly so. It’s reshaping industries, redefining work and increasingly influencing homes and childhoods. But as policymakers and technologists rush to prepare K-12 schools for an AI-powered future, they risk overlooking a critical window: the early years, when children’s brains are developing faster than at any other point in life.”

I know a lot of seasons Early Childhood Educators believe that AI doesn’t belong in the classroom, because students get enough screen time at home. I disagree with this, the world has changed, so Early Childhood Educators should change with it.

I asked AI on google, How does AI Literacy look in a Preschool Classroom? This is what it said…

“AI literacy in a preschool classroom focuses on introducing basic AI concepts through play and exploration, rather than technical coding. It involves using AI-powered toys and tools to spark curiosity and understanding about how technology works, fostering critical thinking skills and responsible technology use. This includes learning about AI’s capabilities and limitations, as well as its potential impact on daily life. “
