Sumi’s First day of school, By Soung Pak -Age Range: 3 – 5
A young Korean girl tries to fit in on her first day of school, even if she doesn’t speak the language, but with the help of a very nice teacher and a new friend, school isn’t so lonely, scary, or mean for Sumi.
Discuss bilingualism, teach the students how to say “Hi” in different languages.

Back to School Tortoise, by Lucy M. George-Age Range: 4 – 7
I love this book! Back to School Tortoise starts off with summer being over and leading into all the things one must do to prepare for school. As Tortoise gets ready for his first day of school, he thinks of all the good and bad things that can happen. Then he decides to go into the classroom anyway. Tortoise is the teacher.
Before reading the book, as the students if they think teachers are afraid of the first day of school? Introduce the Letter B

It’s Back to School we go. By Ellen Jackson-Age Range- 5-9
The first day of school is an event that brings mixed emotions to children all around the world. There is excitement in seeing old friends, and it’s nice to begin a new year with a new teacher and good intentions. But first-day feelings are mixed.
Discuss the First Day of school in a different country. Ask if it is Winter or Summer? Create a chart and put it on your bulletin board, or in your language center.

School Bus, Donald Crews-age range is 4 – 8 years
My nephew loved this book, this book was read to him at least 4 times, and he still picks it to be read. The words are simple, it’s a big bus and a small bus and they take the students to school and back home.
Introduce and review big and small. Ask the students if they would like to ride a school bus to school. Record their responses.
I love picture books, every picture book that I share, I have already reviewed. So you know that they will be a wonderful addition to your classroom or home library.
What is your favorite picture book?
Until next time!
