As most of you know, preschoolers do not get the Summer off. So I try to make Summer as fun as possible. I do not do a lot of academics, but I do continue to read to them. We usually have a Summer reading program in the classroom. One year we tried to read at least a hundred books for the Summer. The students earn prizes along the way.

I also try to create fun stuff like sundae or ice cream day, and recruit parents to come in and do an art project with them. We also do water play, balloon day, wet the teacher day, and movie day. I try to make their days feel different than the normal days they have in preschool throughout the year.
A Summer journal is also fun to do. Have the students decorate their journal with fun Summer stickers. Take pictures of everything that the students do, and have the students paste them in their journal. You can also add special projects that they did for the Summer, and have them create a feelings page describing how they felt that day.
What fun activities do you do with your preschoolers for the Summer?

Thank you for the tip, Ms. Darla. I have been trying to find ways to keep my son engaged during the summer. He does two and a half hours at summer school. When he gets home, he’s ready to party but I would like to keep him engaged with academic activities here and there. He has autism, so it is kind of hard to read to him. He understands, but does not allow me to read as he keeps taking the books. Any tips will help!❤️
Hello, thanks for you comment. Try reading the pictures rather than the words. See if that helps, let me know. 🙂
